Blood-1

While stain is fresh, soak in cold water; launder in warm suds. If stain remains, soak in bleach solution (according to label directions); rewash.

Blood-2

Blood stains on clothes: Pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood.

Candle Wax-1

Scrape off excess wax with dull knife. Place stained portion between white blotters, clean white cloths, or paper towels; press over with a warm iron. Place stain face down on paper towels and sponge back with dry-cleaning fluid; let dry; launder.

Candle Wax-2

Place ice on wax to harden; scrape off with fingers or dull knife. Wipe with plain vinegar. If stain remains, and fabric is white, soak in bleach solution; launder.

Candle Wax-3

Candle wax on carpets: Scrape off as much as possible with a table knife. Cover the spot with a cotton cloth or dishtowel and iron over with iron set to synthetic setting or low. The wax will transfer to the cloth. Remove cloth and repeat until all the wax is lifted.

Chewing Gum

Harden stain by rubbing it with ice; scrape with a dull knife. Sponge with dry-cleaning fluid; launder.

Chocolate

Soak in cool water. Rub detergent on stain; launder in water as hot as is safe for fabric; dry. If stain remains. sponge with hydrogen peroxide, rinse and launder.

Coffee - Tea

Soak in oxygen-bleach solution using hottest water safe for fabric, then launder. If stain remains. rewash using chlorine bleach.

Cooking Oil

Wipe stain with dry cleaning solvent.

Cosmetics

Treat with dry-cleaning fluid; rub detergent on stain; launder. Bleach if necessary.

Fruit-Wine-1

Soak stain in cool water. If stain remains. bleach, then launder.

Fruit-Wine-2

Dab immediately with club soda. This is handy if wine is spilled at a nightclub. Keep club soda on hand at home.

Glass Rings

To remove rings from glasses on furniture: Rub in mayonnaise, let stand for about an hour, then wipe clean with soft cloth.

Glue

Dab with amyl acetate or nail polish remover (not the oily type).

Grass-1

Rub warm suds into stain, rinse. Bleach any remaining stain; launder.

Grass-2

Wipe with rubbing alcohol or denatured alcohol.

Grease-Tar-Oil

Remove excess with dull knife. Sponge with dry-cleaning fluid; launder. If stain remains, bleach.

Ink-1

Rub white petroleum jelly into stain; soak in detergent solution, then launder If stain remains, bleach.

Ink-2

To remove ink from washable shirts try aerosol hairspray.

Mildew

First take item outside in the sun. Brush off loose mildew then soak the area with lemon juice. Next rub salt into the lemon soaked mildew area and either leave overnight or place in the sun.

Nail Polish

Sponge with dry-cleaning fluid, acetone or nail-polish remover; launder. Bleach if necessary. Do not use acetone on acetate, Arnel or Dynel.

Paint-Varnish-1

Sponge with turpentine until surface paint or varnish is removed. While stain is wet with solvent, rub in detergent and soak overnight in water as hot as is safe for fabric. Next day, launder. If stain remains, repeat the treatment.

Paint-Varnish-2

Spattered paint on you: Baby oil will remove it.

Perspiration

Wash or sponge thoroughly with detergent and warm water. If perspiration has discolored fabric, color can often be restored by applying ammonia to fresh stains, vinegar to old stains. Rinse. If oil stain remains, use a dry-cleaning fluid, then launder. If stain still remains, bleach.

Rust

Apply rust remover following label directions, or moisten fabric with lemon juice and rub in noniodized salt and let dry in the sun. Rinse well and launder. If stain remains, moisten with oxalic-acid solution (dissolve one tablespoon oxalic-acid crystals in one cup warm water); rinse.
