Magickal Journey

I first gather all of my supplies needed for the ritual and construct my altar. My personal altar is in the back spare bedroom in the middle of the floor. The supplies I bring to the altar are all personal and have a special meaning to me. The needed supplies are (by all means bring something that you feel is special):

1. A white cotton bed sheet
2. 4 white candles and candle holders
3. 4 bay leaves
4. Incense, I prefer lavender and I have a specific incense for protection
5. Matches
6. Incense holders
7. White power candle
8. Goddess essential oil
9. Orange essential oil and oil burner
10. A carving tool, which I use a small knife
11. Candles for the purpose I am casting for (ex. Luck with litigation, prosperity, banishing unwanted persons)
12. A cd of relaxing music, I use the soundtrack from Practical Magick or City of Angels
13. Candle holders for the purpose candle
14. Sea salt (optional)
15. A sage smudge stick and a non flammable container for it
16. Bath salts of your particular choice
17. Spare candles of any color representing what you are working toward and candle holder
18. A glass of wine

I spread the sheet out and place a white candle in each corner of the sheet and a bay leaf below it. I set out the candleholders for the purpose candles. I then dress the candles with the Goddess essential oil. To dress a candle you hold the candle in your weaker hand (ex. I am left-handed so I hold it in my right hand). In your stronger hand place a small amount of the oil. Take candle in the palm of your opposite hand and grasp it at the center and move upward toward the wick with ONE motion making sure to go around the wick. Add a bit more oil in your hand and from the center move downward in ONE motion dressing the bottom portion of the candle. Place the candle in the holder. Place the white power candle in the middle of the altar with the purpose candle(s) behind it. Place the incense in the holders and turn on the music.

Once my altar is prepared I take a warm bath with bath salts added and a bit of the orange essential oil. I light candles around the bath water and turn out the lights. I then lay out clothing that is all white. While bathing imagine washing away any negative energy that is within or around you. Keep washing away the negativity until you feel it is gone. After the bath put on the white clothing and return to the altar.

The smudge stick should be lit along with the incense and four white candles in each corner and the orange essential oil in the oil burner. Turn out or dim the lights and begin to meditate with the music softly playing. Allow the white light of the candles to enter your mind, body and soul. Imagine the light entering your minds eye and clear your mind except for what you are casting for. Set the smudge stick near you and deeply inhale the smoke in through your mouth and out through your nose. When you feel as though you are focused enough to begin, imagine a pentagram surrounding your altar. Either physically or mentally sprinkle the sea salt around the pentagram. I add small candles of particular colors of what I am casting for to the altar, such as white for peace and protection, black for banishment, red for love and pink for friendship.

Now is time to light the white power candle and the purpose candles. I light the power candle from one of the four burning in each corner. If you call the corners do so now. Once the power candle is lit I ask the gods and goddess’ for power and protection and the SPECIFICS of what I am casting for.

Once you have asked for the above, light the purpose candle from the power candle. There is usually a chant involved with the purpose candles and I do this now. I then sit and meditate on what I am casting for and let the flame of the candles enter my mind and body. I sometimes drink a glass of wine while working my magick. It helps me to relax and it’s also nice to drink a glass during the cleansing bath.

When you feel that your work is complete, thank the goddess and god for their help and blessings. ALWAYS SNUFF THE CANDLE OUT OR PINCH IT OUT NEVER BLOW IT OUT THIS BLOWS AWAY THE WORK YOU HAVE DONE.

I usually feel tired and hungry afterwards. It's good to eat after a ritual because eating before can be distracting with the digestion process. So enjoy something to eat and rest.

MP and BB, Careful what you wish for!

This is just my personal ritual and it should be personal for every individual. An altar can be a coffee table, the floor, or wherever you may feel comfortable. It can be left up permanently or taken down after each ritual. As you perform rituals you will form it into what you want it to be and as with anything it takes practice. The incense and essential oils are mostly of personal taste and can be modified, as can the particular incense used...Lady Voo
